Dragon Boat Race Festival

Fanshawe Reservoir is some distance (12 km) from where we live - especially when you travel on a one-speed bike. Even more so, when a puncture makes you realise that you are quite a way from home already, now with a broken bike, and no repair kit at hand.

A friendly stranger lent his repair kit - but with a glue tube filled with nothing but air. By the time we had found this article in the shops (bike related things are out of season now), cycled back and forth to the broken bike and repaired the inner tube, it was late in the day. Rain clouds were gathering. We pressed on to the lake, and got there just in time for some dragon boat races.

Commitment!

Setting out.

Jostling for position.

Beaten by the faster crew.

The Summer months take their toll on Fanshawe Reservoir. An oily green slick congregated at the dam. The banks of the lake are not pretty, perhaps they improve with autumn leaf colour. Possibly it did not help that the rain started falling while we watched the races. We still had to cycle home, after all.

After our round trip we had easily covered 30 km and I was glad that I had prepared lunch early in the morning already.
