Community Gardens ...

and more ...

I had attended the information session on Community Gardens back in March. By now the plots had been allocated, planted, and the fruits of the allotment gardeners' efforts were ready to be harvested.  Although I saw one area without a fence around it, most gardens have a protective boundary - if only to keep the rabbits out. In one garden I found uncultivated plots - a shame really, considering there seemed to be waiting lists in the Spring.

Full sun and access to water are essential for success.

Other arrangements I really like in London are:

The splash-pads and wading pools in public parks. When the pool is filled with water (and chlorine) a lifeguard is on duty. Since the water is not very deep, it warms up quickly.

The picnic areas in public parks. A roof, some picnic tables, a BBQ arrangement. No need to book - turn up and have fun with friends and family. In winter this seemed comical, but in summer it makes perfect sense to have an address for your party.

And I am going to miss this:
Although it is not intended for the general public, we had access to the hall through Campus Recreation membership. A badminton court which just begs to be used.
