Elgin Trail

I had re-acquainted myself with some very nice people, whom we had met at the Laughter Yoga, again at Fanshawe Lake, then at the Yoga in the Park and at Tai Chi - and it was decided that I would go on a walk with their hiking group, the Elgin Hiking Trail Club. I picked up my friend and together we made to the meeting point, some place south of St. Thomas. We met the Club member, and the five of us set out on a walk up a steep muddy slope. The mosquitoes were fierce. Even 'nature man' applied some bug spray. After about five minutes we thought that our strength lay in our flexibility; we returned to the car and went on to the beach at Port Stanley.

What a great decision that had been. We were on our own. Milky waves washed lazily onto the pebbly beach.

The heavy rains of the previous night had brought pollution to the water and dead fish were rolling up and down in the surf.

An unexpected off-flow of lake-bound water separated a strip of beach from the coast.

We walked and walked until we reached the end of Erie Rest Beach where we played with some mud which was oozing down the hill.

The sky turned ever more blue, some clouds gave the air shape.

Finally we drove up to Hawk Cliff, east of Port Stanley, where we had a full view of Lake Erie and the sky above, while munching on an impromptu picnic. Our little group worked well together - and this had been a great outing.
